The Top 30 Conservatives in Idaho Politics
Do you see your senator or representatives on this list? If so, fantastic! If not, call them up and ask them to get with the program.
Let’s do a little bit of math…
Every two years, Idaho voters elect 105 men and women to pass laws on their behalf. 70 of these are in the House of Representatives and 35 are in the Senate. In order to pass a bill, you need 36 votes in the House, 18 in the Senate, and the signature of the governor.
Starting in 2023, there were 59 Republicans in the House and 28 in the Senate. Of those, how many were reliably conservative?
Many organizations score state lawmakers based on how they vote on key legislation. The Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) and the Legislative Analysis (ILA) looked at Idaho from a national perspective, while the Idaho Freedom Foundation (IFF) rated hundreds of bills over the past two years.
These scorecards correlate pretty well. If someone received a 100% score from CPAC, he or she likely scored high on both the ILA and IFF ratings as well.
That makes sense, right?
A conservative is a conservative, no matter what metrics you use. According to every available metric, the Idaho Legislature is home to some of the most conservative lawmakers in the nation.
By averaging ten different metrics, we get a clear picture of who in Idaho is truly conservative:
